
Blasters Finish Season with Loss at Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD-The Blasters closed out their inaugural 2015 season with a 5-1 loss to the Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Labor Day.
Joplin (55-45) started the day's scoring with three straight singles from the top of the order for a 1-0 lead. Maikol Gonzalez, Oscar Mesa, and Matt Padgett combined for the run. Padgett had the RBI single.
Sioux Falls (39-60) quickly responded to tie it in the bottom of the first with a two-out, solo home run deep to left by Jerome Pena. It was Pena's eighth of the season. The Canaries added a single mark in the third with a two-out double off the wall in right-center from David Bergin. In the eighth, Sioux Falls put the game out of reach with a three-run home run deep to left by Brian Humphries. It was Humphries 15th dinger of the season.
On the mound, Shawn Blackwell posted his third complete game victory of the season. Blackwell (5-9) worked all nine innings and gave up one earned run on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks. For Joplin, Matt Parish took the loss. Parish (2-4) lasted seven and allowed two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Sioux Falls outhit Joplin 9-to-8. Jerome Pena led the way with four hits, a homer, and three runs scored. David Bergin and Brian Humphries each had two hits. For Joplin, Matt Padgett and Aaron Brill both collected two hits. The Blasters Mitch Glasser played all nine positions in the contest.
It was the shortest nine-inning game Joplin played all season at one hour and fifty-four minutes. The Blasters went 4-3 on its final road trip of the season.
