
Wingnuts Break League Record for Wins

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (66-32) set an American Association record with their 66th win of the season on Saturday night, beating the Kansas City T-Bones (40-58) 5-3 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Jake Kahaulelio had four RBI in support of Justin Klipp who pitched six strong innings to earn his eighth win of the year.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, David Amberson singled to left field and moved to second when Jared McDonald beat out a groundball in the hole at shortstop. After Ryan Khoury walked to load the bases, Kahaulelio pulled a single through the left side to score Amberson and McDonald with the tying runs.
McDonald drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth and took second on a single through the left side from Khoury. With Kahaulelio due up next, Josh Hildebrand relieved T-Bones' starter Keith Picht. Kahaulelio put Wichita in front with a two-run, hit-and-run double to right-center field.
In the top of the sixth, Felix Molina lined a single to center that scored Kennard Jones to cut Wichita's lead to 4-3. Klipp escaped further trouble when Luis Rivera grounded into an inning-ending double play at short.
Klipp allowed three earned runs on nine hits, walked one, and struck out three.
Nick Walters worked two shutout innings in relief of Klipp.
Josh Dew struck out two during a scoreless ninth to earn his 26th save of the season.
Picht took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits in four-plus innings. Picht walked three and struck out two.
Kansas City scored twice in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead. Justin Bass tripled home Anthony Davis for the game's first run. Joey Gathright followed with an RBI single to left.
Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at 3:16 p.m. Anthony Capra faces left-hander Rick Zagone.
The 2013 American Association Division Series begins Wednesday, September 4th. The Wingnuts host Game Three of the series on Friday, September 6th as well as the "if necessary" Games Four and Five on September 7th and 8th.
