Trailing 7-2 going into the inning, the Windy City ThunderBolts scored eight times in the top of the ninth to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 10-8 in front of 3,244 at GCS Ballpark.
Windy City (14-14) scored the eight runs on just three hits in the inning. Robert Romero gave up five runs on a single hit in just .1 inning. He walked three and a hit a batter. Eric Ridener (0-2) followed. Ridener suffered the loss. He gave up three runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batter.
The Grizzlies (13-15) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Charlie Lisk hit a towering two-run home run to left that put the Grizzlies up 2-1. Lisk's homer was his 10th of the year, which leads the league. He now has 29 RBIs which also leads the league.
The Grizzlies got two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The four runs came on just a single hit.
No Grizzlies player had more than a single hit. Brandon Scott, Stephen Holdren and Charlie Lisk each had a pair of RBIs.
Manny Paula added his third home run of the year with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Grizzlies and Thunderbolts continue the series with a 7:05 game Friday night at GCS Ballpark.
