March 20, 2024 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
Making contributions to the Windsor community both on and off the ice, Windsor Spitfires' #24 Carson Woodall continues to honor his family's legacy by creating a clothing initiative "Woody's Hoodies" in support of local cancer research.
In honor of his grandmothers, Nana O'Brien and Nana Woodall, the 17-year-old defenceman from Belle River, Ont. has launched Woody's Hoodies. With every hoodie purchase, 24% of the proceeds are directed towards local cancer research programs in the Windsor-Essex area. These efforts are made possible through partnerships with Play For a Cure Pro-Am and the Windsor Spitfires organization.
"I created the Woody's Hoodies initiative after my grandma passed away from breast cancer and while my other grandma battles ovarian cancer to help raise money and awareness for the battle against cancer," said Woodall.
These hoodies feature a custom ribbon designed by Woodall, combining symbols representing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. This ribbon is prominently displayed on the right sleeve, symbolizing unity and support during handshake lineups at hockey games.
"I'm very grateful to be a part of an amazing organization that will help their players with their goals. We're all excited to raise money towards local cancer research and create awareness."
While the initial goal of Woody's Hoodies is to foster team bonding and camaraderie both on and off the ice, its next mission is to expand its impact in the fight against cancer.
