Windsor Spitfires Bring Back the Spitfire Community Tour of Champions
June 17, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor) As a result of Windsor's second consecutive MasterCard Memorial Cup and OHL championship achieved this past season, the Windsor Spitfires and Tim Hortons, along with associate sponsorship from the Windsor and Essex County Chrysler Dealers and Pioneer Petroleums will be offering fans the opportunity to share in the team's success yet again by conducting the "2010 Spitfire Community Tour of Champions, Presented by Tim Hortons". This will be the second straight year that the tour is offered, as the Spitfires and Tim Hortons conducted the inaugural version of this community based initiative following Windsor's first MasterCard Memorial Cup and second OHL championship earned in team history during the 2008-2009 season.
The 2010 tour will provide local charitable groups, schools and organizations throughout Windsor and Essex County with the opportunity to enjoy a three month summer tour including Windsor Spitfire players for selected visits as well as the awards won by the team this past season. These include the Memorial Cup, J. Ross Robertson Cup and Wayne Gretzky OHL Western Conference championship trophies. The tour will also make stops at local Tim Hortons and Chrysler dealerships.
Windsor and Essex County Chrysler Dealers as well as Pioneer Petroleums will also provide the Windsor Spitfires with transportation and complimentary gas cards, enabling Spitfire players to travel throughout the local area as part of this community program. The tour will make its first official stop at St. Pius X School in Tecumseh, Ontario on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 1 pm.
Community and local business requests for visits will be accepted by the team and must be submitted to coop@windsorspitfires.com. The team must receive each request at least two weeks in advance of the suggested visit date. Each request will be reviewed and answered by the Windsor Spitfires.
"The Windsor Spitfires are excited to again offer the 2010 version of this tour to the best fans in the CHL. We are proud to commemorate the team's back to back MasterCard Memorial Cup and OHL championship performances by offering fans a unique opportunity to share in the team's success. Our organization believes it is important to recognize the contributions made by Spitfire fans, as it would have been impossible for us to secure another Memorial Cup and OHL title without their support. We would also like to thank Tim Hortons for coming on as title sponsors along with Windsor and Essex County Chrysler Dealers and Pioneer Petroleums as associate sponsors for the second straight year. Tim Hortons, Chrysler and Pioneer Petroleums have been major supporters of Windsor Spitfires hockey and we look forward to working with them as part of the tour and in future seasons," commented Windsor Spitfires President and Head Coach Bob Boughner.
"As a neighbour and active member of the Windsor/Essex community we are pleased to support the 2010 Spitfire Community Tour of Champions, Presented by Tim Hortons," says Rob Trdina, Tim Hortons Store Owner. "We are committed to giving back to the communities where we live, work and play and being an integral member of the community is very important to us."
