Windsor Spitfires News Release
After a phenomenal comeback Friday night against Guelph, the Spitfires looked to keep the momentum rolling as they headed to Owen Sound. Coming into Saturday, Windsor led the season head-to-head with two wins and one loss against the Attack, with their last meeting being just fourteen days prior.
The Spitfires came out of the gate hot with a few good chances and shots on net. At the 6:02 mark, Jack Nesbitt would rifle a shot from the slot and give Windsor an early 1-0 lead. The Attack would take some time to respond, however Landen Hookey and Ethan Burroughs at the 11:06 and 15:36 marks would score and give Owen Sound a 2-1 lead. With most of the momentum in favor of the home team, Windsor seemed like they would head into the intermission down one goal. Despite this, Djibril Toure would unleash a powerful shot from the point and tie things up at 2-2 with 1:29 left in the frame.
Period 2 would have a very stagnant start with a lot of neutral zone hockey being played. We would see our first penalty of the game taken at the 8:54 mark by Cole Davis for slashing. Not long after, Carson Woodall would get into a mini scrum with Landen Hookey and Declan Waddick, who were all given roughing calls. Windsor would be awarded their first power play of the game, however Servac Petrovsky would pressure Joey Costanzo behind the net and score a shorthanded goal. At this point Owen Sound had all the momentum once more, and with four seconds left in the period, the Attack would add one more goal to their lead making it 4-2 at the break.
The final frame of regulation wasn't any better for the Spits as the Attack would tag on two more goals at the 5:53 and 7:12 mark. Despite a few more power play chances, Windsor could not find the back of the net until the 15:09 mark when Jack Nesbitt would deflect Woodall's shot from the point to make it 6-3. Soon after, Djibril Toure and Attack player Sam McCue would receive offsetting roughing penalties and would be kicked out of the game with 10-minute misconducts. The Spitfires would pull Constanzo with just under three minutes to play. Despite some relentless offensive efforts, they could not complete the comeback similar to Friday against Guelph.
The Spits fall 6-3 and split their season series with Owen Sound at two wins a piece. Jack Nesbitt would finish the night with two goals and would be crowned the third star of the game. Windsor will be back home for a very important game against Flint on Thursday.
