Wind Surge Cliff Notes; Wichita Wins, 5-2
August 9, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Midland RockHounds News Release
The fifth inning Sunday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium in Wichita, Kansas, summed up the entire season series between the RockHounds and the Wind Surge.
Wichita scored four runs, breaking a 1-1 tie, and went on to a 5-2 win, their fifth in the six-game series.
The fifth inning "baseball carnage" saw the Wind Surge score their four runs on three singles (one of them a bunt), a fielder's choice, three errors and a two-run double. In other words, on Sunday afternoon (and pretty much throughout the 12 meetings between the clubs), nothing went right for the RockHounds.
The 'Hounds took the lead just two batters into the game when Devin Foyle extended his hit streak to seven games (see "Kibbles & Bits," below) with a solo home run to right-center. D.J. Burt answered for Wichita with an RBI double in the home half of the second inning and the 1-1 tie stood until the "mess" in the last of the fifth, which was capped by a two-run double from Jermaine Palacios.
Edwin Diaz hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth for the game's final run. It was his fourth home run in 10 games since joining the RockHounds from (Triple-A) Las Vegas at the start of the road trip.
The RockHounds, after splitting a six-game series at Tulsa to open the road swing, dropped 5-of-6 to the Wind Surge to finish the trip 4-8.
