Brevard County Manatees News Release
(Viera, FL) Steffan Wilson's tenth inning, walkoff grand slam lifted the Manatees to a 6-2 win over Lakeland Sunday afternoon. Now, the Manatees are closing in on what might be the biggest milestone of their season, their 1,000th win. With Sunday's victory, the Manatees are just one win away from 1,000.
Michael Bowman took a no-hitter through 5.2 innings as the Manatees built a 2-0 lead. Bowman finished with just one hit allowed in six innings, while striking out eight. The game remained 2-0 into the ninth inning, with Jim Henderson looking to close out the victory. Flying Tigers leadoff hitter Devin Thomas reached base on an errant throw from Brent Brewer, however, opening the door for a Lakeland comeback. With Brevard County hanging on to a 2-1 lead with two outs and the bases loaded, Audy Ciriaco slapped a single up the middle. Jeramy Laster scored to tie the game, but Chris White was gunned down at the plate by Logan Schafer to leave the game tied at two. Anderson De La Rosa led off the tenth inning with a double to left field. Schafer was then able to beat out a bunt single, giving the Manatees runners on first and third with no outs. After Eric Farris was intentionally walked to load the bases, Wilson blasted the second offering from Lakeland's Nolan Cain over the left field wall to win the game. It was Wilson's ninth homer of the season.
Rafael Lluberes (3-2) earned the win in relief for Brevard County. The Manatees look to win their 1,000th game tonight, as they close out the series with Lakeland. All-Star Evan Anundsen (8-7, 2.94) will be on the mound for the Manatees, facing Andrew Hess (6-9, 3.34). If the Manatees do not reach the milestone tonight, they will still have three more chances on this homestand, as Dunedin comes to town for a three-game series beginning Tuesday. Make sure to check out Space Coast Stadium during this homestand to see the Manatees make a run at a milestone!
