FIRST THINGS FIRST: Tonight, the Wilson Tobs will face off with the Fayetteville SwampDogs for the first time in 2019. The last time these two teams met was July 13, 2018. The SwampDogs walked off in a wild back-and-forth contest with a 13-12 final in the 11th. During the 2018 season, the two teams split their four matchups evenly at
two apiece.
GIL-MORE MORE MORE: Jacob Gilmore will make his Tobs debut tonight after joining the team on June 8. The left-hander just finished his red-shirt sophomore season at Illinois State, tossing 26.2 innings to the tune of 3.71 ERA for the Redbirds. Gilmore graduated from Central Catholic High School in 2017. He was born December 30, 1997 in Bloomington, Illinois as the son of Jeff and Danielle Gilmore
WHO ARE YOU?: The Fayetteville SwampDogs come into town today for their only trip to Fleming Stadium. The Tobs make just one trip to J.P. Riddle Stadium this season on July 13. The SwampDogs racked up 20 hits and 13 runs on their way to a 13-9 victory over the Morehead City Marlins on Wednesday night. They enter today tied for first with the Morehead City Marlins (5-4). The team was founded in 2001 and have had 7 division titles without winning a CPL crown.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The last Tobs league game gave Wilson a 5-1 win over the Edenton Steamers on June 11 to remain undefeated at home. It was the sixth time this season the Tobs have allowed three or fewer runs in a game. They have not lost in those situations in 2019. Wilson has taken down the Steamers in both of their matchups this year and will see them again on Saturday with a double-header set for Tuesday the 18th at Hicks Field. The division foes play six times in the first half of the season.
STREAKY: Drew DeVine enters play on a eight-game hitting streak. After going 0-3 on opening night, he's 17 for his last 35 (.486) with 13 RBI and three multi-hit games. Corrigan Bartlettand Hunter Gore have reached base in eight-straight games. Gore has hits in five consecutive games (8-20, .400). No other Tob has a hit streak longer than three games.
ON DECK: Wilson returns home on June 15 against the Edenton Steamers at 7:00 PM. It's Family Night at the ballpark, Girl Scout Night and a reschedule of Bark in the Park. It's all brought to you by State Farm Jana Lake, the Cottage Animal Clinic, TL Herring Company and Denny's. Wilson is on the road on June 14 to face the Morehead City Marlins. It's the first of two trips the Tobs take there this season.
