Wilmington Sea Dawgs News Release

Wilmington, NC May 11, 2012 - Tenacious defense and strong outside shooting from Dana Pickett of Big Texas in the fourth quarter had the Wilmington Sea Dawgs seeing visions of their first game against the club, where they frittered away a substantial lead to lose. However, strong defense of their own allowed the Dawgs to hold on for a 103-98 win.

The Sea Dawgs were led by Shelton Carter and J.J. Cook, each with 23 points. Big Texas was led by Ron Beatty with 19 and Nate Priest with 17.

The first quarter saw the Sea Dawgs take a seven point lead 28-21, with a lot of tight defense by both the Dawgs and Big Texas, smart interior passing, and some nifty outside shooting by Carter.

Wilmington turned up the defensive intensity in the second quarter and that translated into points, pushing their lead out to as many as 20, finishing the half with a 62-46 lead.

The Sea Dawg set offense faltered in the third quarter, and with some sharp outside shooting from Pickett, Big Texas eroded the lead down to 82-72. However strong rebounding and defense kept Big Texas from closing all the way.

The Sea Dawgs are back in action at the Schwartz Center next Friday at 7:00PM to host the Fayetteville Crossover.
