Cary over Fayetteville in Overtime
May 11, 2012 - Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL)
Fayetteville Crossover News Release
Cary, NC: The visiting team from Fayetteville had a lot to play for in Cary on Friday night. A win could put them at the top of the TRBL point standings and nearly guarantee them a spot in the league's playoffs. The Crossover came ready to play and did everything that must be done to beat a team that has only lost once in two seasons on its home court. The Crossover were better at every part of the game for nearly 4 quarters. They controlled the game out of the gate, leading by 4 at halftime and extending the lead to as many as 12 points in the third and fourth quarters by getting to loose balls and knocking down outside shots. But, the home team, who stayed 3 possessions behind through most of the second half, got key 3 pointers from Jonathan Moore (NCCU) and Paul Wright (Mountain State) in the final minutes of regulation to get the game to overtime. The Invasion didn't look back in overtime and quickly built a double-digit lead, taking advantage of a short-handed and fatigued Crossover squad. The final score was Cary 136, Fayetteville 127. Seven Cary players scored in double figures, led by guard Freddie Little's (Montivello) 23 points. Jamel Carpentar and Brandon Streeter had 34 and 31 points respectively for the Crossover. Fayetteville hosts Wilmington tomorrow night, and Cary goes to Smithfield tomorrow night to face the Carolina Gladiators in games that could shake up the TRBL point standings.
