San Angelo Colts News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - After sweeping the Laredo Broncos at home, the San Angelo Colts did not cool off despite going on the road to Amarillo, where the game-time temperature was 70 degrees on Saturday night. The Colts (32-21) never trailed in the game and defeated the Amarillo Dillas 3-1 in the first game of a short two-game series leading into the All-Star Break. San Angelo has now won four in a row for the second time this season.
Each starting pitcher, Logan Williamson (7-3) for the Colts and Taylor Allen (4-6) for the Dillas (33-25), held the teams scoreless for the first four innings as Allen also picked off two runners from first base in that time. Williamson also picked off a runner, Andrew Wong, from second base to end a threat in the fourth inning.
The Colts broke the scoreless tie in the fifth when Wyn Diggs walked to lead off the inning, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on a two-out RBI single by Charley Belew to make it 1-0. The Dillas drew even in the bottom of the fifth when Jonathan Reynoso drove home former Colt Sam McLain with a two-out RBI single of his own.
San Angelo bounced back though and took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth off Allen. Jose Torres reached on an infield single with one out and then stole second, despite the Dillas pitching out on the play. Torres then scored on a bloop double by Aaron Cone that fell just inside the left field line and out of the reach of the left fielder McLain, who dove for it. Andres Rodriguez had the third straight hit of the inning, an RBI single that scored Cone to put the Colts ahead 3-1.
After Amarillo scored in the fifth, they managed only three baserunners over the next four innings off Williamson and Chris Weast, who pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his second professional save. Weast relieved Williamson in the eighth with the tying runs on base and two out and struck out A.J. Johnson to end the inning and preserve the lead.
Williamson picked up his team-leading seventh win, going 7 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on only six hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Despite a solid performance and striking out 11, Allen took his fourth straight loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits with three walks.
