Wildcatters scratch Sea Wolves 5-2 in game two

BILOXI, MS - The Texas Wildcatters took a commanding 2-0 lead in the South Division Quarterfinals series with a 5-2 win over the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Thursday night at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas.

Texas struck midway through the first period when Kevin Baker drilled a shot from the low slot past Sea Wolves goalie Ryan Munce on the power play at 9:34. The Wildcatters extended their lead to two when Cleve Kinley snuck into the slot from the blueline and one-timed Brandon Benedict's feed past Munce for a power-play goal at 14:04.

Sprung on a breakaway, the Wildcatters' John McNabb was fouled from behind and awarded a penalty shot by referee Steven Patafie at the 16:35 mark of the second period. McNabb drew Munce down to the ice with a deke to the forehand and put the puck past him to give Texas a 3-0 lead. Max Taylor gave Texas a 4-0 lead when he broke down the ice one-on-one, beat Gio Flamminio to the inside and put the puck up and over Munce for a shorthand goal at 18:17.

Jason Tejchma got the Sea Wolves on the board with a power play goal when he banged home the rebound of Marek Kvapil's shot at 1:48 of the third period. Texas would re-establish its' four-goal lead when Cleve Kinley potted his second power-play goal of the night at 4:32. Jason Tejchma picked up his second goal of the playoffs when he beat Texas goaltender Anton Khudobin over the glove at 12:56.

Mississippi was 1-for-7 on the power play and Ryan Munce made 28 saves in taking the loss.

Single game ticket pricing for the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs is the same as during the regular season, with tickets starting as low as $10. Fans who have already purchased playoff packages can pick them up at the final Sea Wolves home game on Friday against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the customer service table located on the concourse behind section 14.

Mississippi enters the Kelly Cup Playoffs as the eighth seed in the South Division, and will face the Texas Wildcatters in the best-of-five first round series. The series will begin with a pair of games at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas, on April 9 and 10. The Sea Wolves will return home to host game three of the series on Saturday, April 12, at 7:05. Game four, if necessary, will be Sunday, April 13 at 5:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Game five will be at Ford Arena in Beaumont on April 15.
