South Georgia Wildcats News Release
April 21, 2008, ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats are excited to announce they have been assigned WR/DB Ivory McCann by the af2 league office.
"The addition of Ivory McCann brings a player that can do many things for us offensively, defensively, and on special teams," said Wildcats Head Coach Rodney Blackshear. "I had the opportunity to coach Ivory when he was a Freshman at Texas Tech and he is just another piece of the puzzle as we work towards our goal of a championship."
McCann has spent the last two seasons with the Corpus Christi Sharks, as one the premiere two way players in the game. For his career, McCann has caught 29 passes for 416 yards and 8 touchdowns along with rushing for two scores while on defense registering 124.5 tackles, 6 INT, 38 pass break ups, 4 fumble recoveries and 3 forced fumbles. In 2008, McCann was voted the af2's Ironman of the Week for Week 3 and the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7 and was named to the league's first All-Ironman Team.
While McCann has had great success on offense and defense in the af2, it is his explosiveness on special teams that has garnered him the most recognition. In two seasons, McCann has been one the league leaders in kick returns averaging 21.2 yards per return while taking 7 back for scores. In 2007 and 2008, McCann was named 1st Team All af2 special teams player for his efforts.
"Ivory McCann is one of the most explosive players in the league," said South Georgia Vice-President Will Carter. "He will definitely be an impact player for us in the secondary as well as adding some excitement to our return game."
The Wildcats next home game is Saturday, April 25th against the Peoria Pirates. Individual and Season tickets are still available at incredible new prices by contacting the Wildcats box office at 229-435-2TIX. Don't miss out on the action!
