
Wild Unveil 2010-11 Roster

WENATCHEE, Wash. - TheWenatchee Wild released its 2010-11 roster this afternoon during its preseasonmedia day at the Town Toyota Center. The roster includes eight returners fromlast season's team that won the North American Hockey League (NAHL) PresidentsCup.
Paul Baxter, whois entering his third season as the Wild's taskmaster, described his roster as,"young, big, fast and skilled with good hockey sense," and added, "there are alot of players on the roster that have won, that know how to win and want tocontinue to win."
The Wild settled on its roster after 170 players took partin tryouts. Of those making the roster, seven are natives of Washington state. "Thereare some really good players coming out of Washington," Baxter said. "I thinkit's a testament to the minor hockey associations around the state that aredoing a pretty good job of developing talent."
The Wild returns four forwards from last year's squad: Michael Di Puma, Dajon Mingo, Shawn Paulyand Nathan Sliwinski. Di Puma, wasthe Wild's fourth leading scorer last season with 18 goals and 21 assists (39points). Mingo, who came to the Wild in a trade with Kenai River during the2009-10 season, scored 13 goals and added 20 assists (33 points) in 34 gameswith the Wild. On the year, Mingo scored 21 goals with 31 assists (52 points).Pauly scored 17 goals and added 19 assists (36 points) last season whileSliwinski scored 13 goals with 19 assists (32 points).
Chris Rumble and Eric Johnson are the Wild's onlyreturning blueliners from 2009-10. At plus-24, Rumble owned the team's secondbest plus-minus rating a season ago and chipped in on the offensive side withthree goals and 16 assists (19 points). Johnson recorded seven points and was aplus-7 in 29 games with the Wild last season.
Though this year's defensemen will be young, Baxter isencouraged by what he has seen from the group so far. "They have a lot ofpotential," Baxter said of his new defensemen. "They have good size, biggerthan last year. They have very good stick skills, they see the ice very welland we have some guys that are pretty physical."
In goal, the Wild will welcome back Brandon Jaeger and BrendanJensen. Last season, Jaeger's 22 wins tied him for third most in theleague, and his 1.83 goals-against average and .928 save percentage were thebest in the NAHL. Jaeger was named the NAHL Sherbrook Goaltender of the Year inMay for his efforts in 2009-10. Jensen went 10-3-2 last season and owned agoals-against average of 2.09 and a save percentage of .917.
The Wild opens the 2010-11 season on Sept. 15 at the NAHLShowcase Tournament in Blaine, Minn. The team's first home series, againstKenai River, is on Sept. 24-25. Both of those games begin at 7:05 p.m.
