Wenatchee Wild News Release
Wenatchee, WA. - The Wenatchee Wild got timely scoring and solid goaltending Friday night, beating the Soo Eagles 3-1, in front of 3.540 fans at the Town Toyota Center.
The first period was scoreless but the Wild put up some offense, outshooting the Soo 19-8 in the opening stanza. Wenatchee had two power plays but was held off the board on both.
Jakob Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) scored the game's first goal, as he tucked one in from the top of the crease. Omar Mullan (Dearborn, Michigan) drew the lone assist at 6:51 of the second period, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead.
Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) deflected one home in the early going of the third period, assisted by Chris Jones (Normandy Park, Washington) and Parker Tuomie (Biemerhaven, Germany) assisted just 34 seconds into the period to give Wenatchee a 2-0 lead. Nicholas Rivera (Pacific Palisades, California) slammed home a rebound goal on a 4-on-4, with the unassisted goal at 12:49 putting the Wild up 3-0. The Eagles would finally get on the board in the final minute of regulation, as Michael Caruso scored from Scott Cuthrell and Trevor Boyd at 19:19, but Wenatchee would keep things under control, winning 3-1 and moving into a fourth place tie with Kenai River in the Midwest Division. "Overall, a good enough effort to win" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "Chase (Perry) played very well for us tonight, we had our moments that I thought we were very good. Just looking for a full 60 (minutes) tomorrow, stack one good game on top of another." Littler continued, saying "We want to stay out of the prison rules type of hockey. We need to play harder whistle to whistle, but the prison rules after the whistle we need to stay out of that stuff."
The Wild outshot the Soo 34-28 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) made 27 saves for Wenatchee and Nathan Klebe had 31 stops for the Eagles. The Wild was 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.
Wenatchee is now 23-19-6; the Soo is now 20-20-7.
Wenatchee faces the Soo again tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 7:05pm PST. Then, after two games in Johnstown next Friday and Saturday, February 21st and 22nd, the Wild hosts the Kenai River Brown Bears in a key Midwest Division showdown on Thursday, February 27th and Saturday and Sunday, March 1st and 2nd.
