AMARILLO, TX - Some time off did the Amarillo Bulls wonders on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Bulls fired five goals on 11 first period shots and went on to route the Lone Star Brahmas 9-2 for their 33rd win of the season. Amarillo had not played since a tough 2-0 setback to the Brahmas on February 1st and used the two weeks to practice and get prepared for the stretch run of the North American Hockey League's regular season.

Tyler Gernhofer scored twice for the Bulls, while Eric Purcell, Cody Gylling, Mitchell McPherson, Kyle Gattelaro, Brendan Vetter, Tim Moore and Roman Ammirato had the others. Several players had multi-point games, while Brendan McGuire and Mike Davis each had two assists. Goaltender Paul Berrafato earned his 16th victory of the season.

What a first period for the Amarillo Bulls with five goals on just 11 shots. Four of the goals were scored in a four minute span with a fifth one coming in the final three minutes of the period. Tyler Gernhofer started the flurry of goals with two 17 seconds apart. His first was started on some hard work along the boards with help from Joe Grabowski and Cody Gylling. Gernhofer's second was as a result of the Brahmas' defenseman turnover. Gylling gave the Bulls a 3-0 lead when he scored at the side of the net from Brendan McGuire and newcomer Eric Purcell. Brendan Vetter gave the Bulls a 4-0 lead when he connected on a shot from the point. Brendan McGuire and Patrick Pollock assisted on the play. Tim Moore rounded out the first period scoring when he scored on a scramble in front of the net from Brendan Vetter and Carter Penzien. The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 11-10 in the first period.

The Bulls dominated the second period with 18 shots on goal and adding another two markers that were netted 24 seconds apart. Eric Purcell celebrated his debut in a Bulls uniform with a goal from Brett Szajner and Cody Gylling. Mitchell McPherson followed up that by finding the back of the net from Roman Ammirato. Goaltender Paul Berrafato wasn't busy in the second period turning aside just five shots.

The two teams each scored twice in the final 20 minutes. The Brahmas broke the shutout string of Berrafato with a goal at the 8:41 mark. The Bulls responded in typical fashion when Kyle Gattelaro scored on a wraparound less than 90 seconds later from Mike Davis and Joe Grabowski. Just over two minutes after that, Roman Ammirato rounded out the Bulls' scoring with a slap shot from the slot on the power play from Matt Sieckhaus and Tyler Gernhofer. Lone Star scored its final goal in the final five minutes of the game.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Lone Star Brahmas 46-27, including 17-12 in the third period. The teams combined for five power play opportunities with each scoring once.

Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Amarillo Bulls tomorrow (Saturday) night when they host the Lone Star Brahmas at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It's Merrick Pet Care Pucks For Paws Night. The Bulls will wear their specialty jerseys in support of the Texas Panhandle Pet Savers with an auction to follow immediately after the game. It's also Scout Night and prior to the game there will be a special ceremony to honor the players' parents.
