Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced the signing of RHP Nick Peterson and the re-signing of RHP Corey Bachman.

Peterson joins the Wild Things for 2009 after pitching for Edmonton of the Golden League in 2008. He appeared in 19 games (16 starts) with a record of 3-3, striking out 64 batters while allowing 86 hits in 81.1 innings pitched.

The Odessa, Florida native was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 12th round of the 2006 First-Year-Player-Draft from the University of Tampa. He made his professional debut that season with Staten Island of the Class A New York-Penn League where he went 5-3 with a 1.93 ERA and 14 saves in 30 appearances. In 37.1 innings pitched, he allowed only 20 hits and 29 walks while striking out 53 batters. That season he finished 2nd in games finished (28), 3rd in appearances (30), and 4th in relief points (46) and saves (14) among NYP League hurlers.

Peterson split the 2007 season between Charleston (SC) of the Class A South Atlantic League and Staten Island, appearing in 21 games between the two stops. He had two saves with 35 strikeouts, allowing 13 hits in 21.1 innings pitched.

At the University of Tampa, he went 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 15 appearances (10 starts), saving two games while striking out 81 and allowing only 48 hits in 56.2 innings pitched during his final season with the Spartans in 2006. During the 2005 season, he was 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA in 18 games striking out 39 in 37 innings.

Bachman, a Dillsburg, PA native, re-joins the Wild Things for the 2009 season, after beginning 2008 with Washington prior to having his contract purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays organization on June 11th. He appeared in seven games for the Wild Things going 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA, striking out eight while allowing nine hits in 12.1 innings pitched. Upon signing with Toronto, he was assigned to the rookie Gulf Coast League appearing in 14 games, striking out 12 in 17.2 innings.

Bachman was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 40th round of the 2007 June First- Year-Player-Draft from Virginia Military Institute where he was a teammate of current Wild Thing RHP J.J. Hollenbeck. He made his professional debut with Mesa, of the Arizona League where he went 3-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 13 games, striking out 19 in 23.1 innings pitched. He went 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in five August appearances allowing nine hits in 10.2 innings pitched while striking out 12 batters.

Bachman went 4-2 and led VMI with 29 appearances during his senior season, where he also set career-bests with seven saves, a 1.99 ERA, 49.2 innings, and 31 strikeouts. His eight career saves also place him fifth in Keydet history, with all of that coming after

entering VMI as a walk-on shortstop. Bachman becomes the third former Keydet to play

for the Wild Things along with Hollenbeck and Catcher Andy Barden (2003).

In another move, the Wild Things traded Infielder Ismael Castro to Joliet for a player to be named later.

The Wild Things open their season at home on May 22nd when they'll face off against the Lake Erie Crushers.
