Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, are taking their "Choose a Positive Lifestyle" assembly program on the road again this fall.

"This seems like an appropriate time for us to visit the school kids because it's Red Ribbon Week," said Shawn Gough, account executive for the Wild Things. "The Wild Thing, Grant Dorn, one of the Wild Things pitchers, and I will be visiting seven schools in the Canon McMillan School district this week."

In May the Wild Things initiated a program that teaches drug prevention/awareness, healthy choices, and positive lifestyles by collaborating with area school districts. The baseball team sent players and staff on the road to the various elementary and middle schools in the area, and then they invited the schools to Falconi Field for an exhibition game and lunch (all free of charge).

Nearly 2,000 students flocked to Falconi Field to see the Wild Things and the Chillicothe Paints take to the field in a pre-season exhibition game in May. The kids were able to identify with the players on the field who had visited their schools.

"Our hope is that kids opt for positive lifestyles after they meet our players and staff. We want them to connect with our folks and to realize they, too, can be successful in life if they make the right decisions now," said Ross Vecchio, general manager for the Wild Things.

The Wild Things will continue to visit area schools throughout the school year, sending a positive message to youngsters.
