
Wild Things Sneak Past Roosters in Home Opener

Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, kicked off a six game home stand by defeating the Richmond Roosters (2-2) by a score of 9-8 in their home opener. The Wild Things improved to 2-2 on the season.
Washington opened the scoring in the second inning with back to back homeruns. After a two out walk of Jason Kane, Zack Cates homered. Jake Bollig then followed with a solo shot, his first of the season.
Washington added one run in the third and fifth innings while Richmond remained scoreless until the top of the sixth. In that sixth inning, Rory Thornton and Matt Butler reached on a single and double consecutively. They were then doubled home by Drew Miller to make the score 5-2 Washington.
Heading into the ninth inning, the Wild Things led 7-5 but Richmond rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth fueled by two errors and two wild pitches to take the lead by one, 8-7. Richmond managed only one hit in the frame.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Wild Things' Justin Woodrow lead off with a walk. Jon Cahill and Josh Loggins followed with two more walks. Doug Garcia then doubled in the tying and winning runs in Woodrow and Cahill.
