WASHINGTON, Pa- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced they have sold the contract of OF Darian Sanford to the Chicago White Sox organization Thursday.

The Wild Things acquired Sanford in August 2012 as part of a four player trade with the Southern Illinois Miners. Sanford spent the 2011 season in the Pioneer League, and during the 2010 season, he played with the Royals organization in Arizona.

"Darian caught the attention of White Sox personnel because of his speed and his ability to play the outfield as well as second or third base, thus increasing his value," said Bench Coach Bart Zeller. "He has been working very hard this winter and his efforts were rewarded."

During 2012 Sanford Sanford had a batting average of .236 in 30 games with the Wild Things. He scored 13 runs on 26 hits, and he currently holds the Frontier League record for most stolen bases in a season with 71.

"Although we are going to miss his speed on the base paths, we are happy that Darian is getting another shot with an affiliated organization and we wish him nothing but the best," said Assistant GM Steven Zavacky.

The Washington Wild Things' home opener is slated for May 24th at CONSOL Energy Park. Season ticket packages and group outing tickets are available at the box office; individual game tickets will go on sale Saturday, April 13th. Fundraising and sponsorship opportunities are also available. For information call 724-250-9555.
