Normal CornBelters News Release
Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, recently signed rookie first baseman Adam Derner. He was a named to the 2012 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division III All-America First Team. He was also selected as a D3baseball.com First-Team All-American. The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City ThunderBolts ("CEFCU Opening Night").
Derner played collegiately at William Paterson University (Wayne, NJ) and University of Rhode Island (Kingston, RI). Playing in 42 games for the Pioneers in 2012, he hit .413 with a .804 slugging percentage, 115 total bases, 62 RBI and 13 home runs. Among other statistics, he led the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in slugging percentage, total bases, RBI and home runs.
" Adam can supply power from the left side," said CornBelters Player Personnel Director, Nick Belmonte. "I'm anxious to see him continue on the outstanding career he started at William Paterson. Every time I sign a player from there, they deliver."
THE NIBLET : The CornBelters are currently seeking host families for the 2013 season. The "Host Family Program" provides players with a home away from home. It enables them to live with a family, couple or individual in the Bloomington-Normal area. It is derived from a variety of factors from a player's standpoint. Such factors include: the difficulty in finding a lease for just several months, the possibility of playing for the CornBelters for a limited time and/or the limited salaries that accompany professional baseball at this level of play. If you are interested in becoming a host family, please contact Kyle Kreger at (309) 451-3447 or kkreger@normalbaseball.com.
