
Wild Things Fall Short in Contest with Otters

Washington, PA--Despite a strong eighth inning rally, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, dropped the first game of their three-game home stand against the Evansville Otters with a score of 4-3.
The Otters scored the first runs of the game in the top of the third inning, when designated hitter Greg Alexander hit a three-run home run. Alexander was (1-for-4) with one run and four RBIs.
In the eighth inning, center fielder Chris Sidick scored the first run of the night for the Wild Things. With the based loaded, left fielder Estee Harris stepped up to the plate with one out on the board and hit a two RBI single to drive in designated hitter Doug Thennis and second baseman Scott Lawson.
Washington starting pitcher Jhonny Montoya (2-5) had the start and lasted 6 1/3 innings. Montoya allowed four runs (all earned) on five hits, while walking four and striking out five batters. Relief pitcher Ross Gusky pitched the final 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs and no hits, with one strike out.
Evansville's starter Dan Marcacci (4-1) threw 7 1/3 innings. Marcacci allowed two runs (both earned) on four hits with four strike outs and two walks. Reliever Eric Massingham completed the game allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and three strike outs.
The Washington Wild Things face off against the Evansville Otters Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park. First Pitch is scheduled for 6:35. Tomorrow night is Kids Eat Free, presented by Shearer's Snack Foods. Also the first 1000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a baseball, courtesy of the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association.
