
Miners Mash Five Homers In 10-3 Win

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners hit five home runs in a 10-3 defeat of the Rockford RiverHawks on Tuesday at Road Ranger Stadium.
Ernie Banks hit a two-run, two-out homer in the first inning and the Miners led the rest of the way. Nate Hall, Cannon Lester, Ken Gregory and Sean Coughlin also homered for the Miners.
Jason James and Matt Greener homered for the RiverHawks.
Ryan Zink (4-4) gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings for the win. Rockford starter Matt Gibbs (1-1) gave up seven runs on six hits and three walks and did not get past a five-run Southern Illinois third inning.
The RiverHawks' three-game winning streak ended.
The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. It's the final Faith Night of the year. Kids 12 and under can come on the field at 5 p.m. for another Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet Youth Clinic.
