
Wild Things Defeat Joliet Slammers in Offensive MatchupÃÂ

The Washington Wild Things (24-21) and the Joliet Slammers (28-19) battled in a Tuesday, July 5, 2016 rubber match at Silver Cross Field as part of a three game series. Washington defeated the Slammers with a score of 8-7 in the nine-inning competition. Â
RHP Trevor Foss (6-2) got the nod on the mound for the Wild Things; he pitched five innings, shutdown two Slammers and allowed 12 hits. The Washington ace went head-to-head with Joliet starter Spencer Medick (5-0) as the game turned to an offensive explosion.
Andrew Woeck headed to the mound in relief for Foss in the fifth - pitching three innings, allowing zero hits and executed three strikeouts in his strong outing. Zac Grotz (0-2) entered the ninth and recorded his eighth save of the season.
Washington worked hard offensively; collectively the team recorded 10 hits. David Popkins crushed his sixth homerun of the season, which gave Washington the initial lead in the first. Logan Uxa, who went 3 for four, blasted a three-run homerun in the sixth to tie the game. Newbie Chris Grayson fashioned his first Wild Things hit, run and RBI during the outing - he also hit into the fielder's choice that allowed the go-ahead run for the Wild Things.
The Wild Things and the Joliet Slammers are back in action tomorrow, July 6, 2016 in an 11:05 a.m. competition. RHP Chase Cunningham (2-4) will take the mound for the Wild Things. For more information, visit washingtonwildthings.com.
