Four Slammers Selected as 2016 All-Stars

JOLIET, IL- The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy are pleased to announce four players have been selected for the 2016 Frontier League Y'All-Star Game set for Wednesday, July 13 in Florence, Kentucky. The Frontier Professional Baseball League released Monday the first 24 players per division that have been voted in to play.
For the visiting East Division team, Joliet Slammers first baseman Marc Flores will start at first base. The former Chicago White Sox prospect is in his second season with the Slammers and has slugged nine home runs and 40 RBI in 45 games in 2016- putting him among the League leaders for both home runs and RBI's. The 24-year old was a 30th round selection of White Sox in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft out University of Hawaii at Manoa, in Honolulu, HI.
Flores was also recognized as Frontier League Player of the Week as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation. Flores managed to get 12 hits in his 24 at bats during the week of June 27. Flores went 4-5 against the Rascals, with 5 RBI, 1 home run, 1 double, and 1 run scored. He then followed up this impressive performance with a 1-3 night on Thursday. In the weekend series verses the ThunderBolts, Flores went 6-12 with 1 home run, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored.
Another Slammers infielder will start at second base for the 2016 All- Star game. Carter Bell spent six seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization and owns a .348 on batting average this season. Bell ranks second in the league for batting average and leads the league in RBIs. This is his second season as a member of the Slammers after playing 18 games last year and his 3rd overall in the Frontier League. Bell was also a Frontier League All-Star in 2014.
Joliet Slammers shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez and outfielder Charlie White will also join the East Division team. Rodriguez is in his second season with Joliet. He has a .295 batting average, has 1 home run, and 16 RBI. The shortstop spent three years in the Milwaukee Brewers organization after being drafted in the 17th round of the 2012 draft. Rodriguez OBP was .340 or better in each of his three MiLB seasons, averaging .362 overall. Rodriguez graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park in 2013.
Outfielder Charlie White has a .281 batting average this season in his 48 games played. He has 34 runs scored and 18 RBI. The Naperville-native played with the Boise Hawks in the summer of 2014 before joining the Slammers. The Chicago Cubs selected White in the 21st round of the 2014 draft after he earned All-ACC Second Team honors his sophomore and junior years at the University of Maryland. He departed Maryland as the Terp's all-time stolen base leader with 86 steals. White earned All-State honors his senior year at Naperville North High School. He is the son of former Cub Brian White.
The 2016 Y'All-Star game festivities include the induction of the inaugural class of Frontier League Hall of Famers, a home run derby, a Battle of the Sexes against the Chicago Bandits of National Professional Fastpitch and more.
