Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced they have entered into a partnership with Greentree SportsPlex Monday.

The partnership between the Wild Things and the Greentree SportsPlex extends the services, facilities, and instructors for which Wild Things Baseball Academy Students can select. Students will be able to take lessons at the facility at Southpointe and/or the facility in Greentree an 80,000 square foot state-of-the-art baseball/softball facility (including five coin op pitching machines, three pitching mounds, two hitting tunnels, three lesson areas, and two indoor playing fields).

The Wild Things, who opened a baseball academy at the Iceoplex at Southpointe in 2005, offer baseball and softball instruction to students throughout the area. "Our mission is to provide affordable, family fun," said John Swiatek, CEO and managing partner of the Wild Things. "Offering instruction seemed to be a natural extension of our mission. Kids of all ages love to play softball and baseball, and we want to assist in making them successful in achieving that goal. The Iceoplex at Southpointe had the perfect facility, so we decided that was where we'd begin, and now partnering with the Greentree SportsPlex makes the Wild Things Baseball Academy the premier baseball facility in the entire tri-state area!"

"We're extremely excited about our partnership with the Washington Wild Things. The addition of the Wild Things staff helps us with our mission to provide the best facilities and instruction in the tri-state area," said T.J. O'Leary, General Manger of Greentree SportsPlex.

Students can continue their lessons at the Wild Things Baseball Academy at the Iceoplex with Mark Mason, Chris Sidick, and Justin Gregula or they can go the Wild Things Baseball Academy at the Greentree SportsPlex with a pool of instructors that includes Kevin Orie (USC High, Chicago Cubs), David Swartzbaugh (Chicago Cubs), Ryan Douglass (Canevin HS, KC Royals, Washington Wild Things), John Wehner (Pittsburgh Pirates), Dan Swartsbauer (Duquesne, Pittsburgh Pirates), Brian Holliday (Pittsburgh Pirates), Nick Nery (Moon HS, Stetson, Baltimore Orioles) and Vee Hightower (Mt. Lebo HS, Vanderbilt Univ, Chicago Cubs) formerly of Hitter's World in Castle Shannon.

"We are increasing and enhancing our offerings," added Swiatek. "We think this is a great partnership; it expands the Wild Things' Baseball Academy's horizons."

The Wild Things will host an Open House at both academies on January 21st from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The partnership goes into effect today, according to officials. People interested in taking lessons can call either the Southpointe or Greentree office for information or to schedule a lesson.
