Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things have signed right-handed pitcher Jamal Wilson, the team announced this afternoon. The team also activated infielder Justin Bohn from the disabled list. With the two moves, the active roster now stands at 24.
Wilson most recently played for the Florence Freedom in 2017, pitching 17.1 innings of relief and accumulating a 2-0 record. He maintained a 2.60 ERA and struck out 17 batters in his stint with the Freedom. Prior to joining the Frontier League, Wilson made two appearances during the 2017 season for the Gary SouthShore RailCats, a team in the American Association.
The Riverview, Florida native played three years of college baseball at Division I Jackson State University before transferring to Southeastern University in the NAIA for his senior campaign.
At Jackson State, Wilson spent time as a starter and reliever, amassing a 9-12 overall record, 184 innings pitched, 171 strikeouts and a 4.55 ERA in his time as a Tiger.
After transferring to Southeastern, Wilson enjoyed his most successful individual season at the collegiate level. The right-hander appeared in 16 games, starting 11 and relieving in five, and had a 10-1 record in 75.2 innings pitched. He also collected 104 strikeouts compared to just 20 walks and sustained a 3.69 ERA as a member of the Fire.
Wilson attended high school at Howard W. Blake High School in Tampa, Florida.
Bohn is a former 7th-round selection of the Miami Marlins and was a regular in the Wild Things lineup during the 2017 campaign. In 56 games last season, Bohn batted .224 with nine doubles, two triples and two home runs. Bohn is slated to start at shortstop in his first game back from injury.
The Wild Things play the Southern Illinois Miners tonight in a doubleheader that starts at 6:05. Game two will follow approximately a half hour after the completion of the first game. The final game of the three-game series will be played tomorrow evening at 7:05.
