Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Kellen Croce Tuesday, prior to their upcoming homestand against Joliet. Croce is currently with the team in Washington and will be active for tonight's game against the Slammers. In a corresponding move, left hander Frank Trimarco has been placed on the 14-Day Disabled List, retro to July 21.
Croce last pitched for the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the independent American Association, where he began his professional baseball career. He appeared in four games for the Redhawks this season and threw just four innings.
Croce was a multi-sport athlete at the University of New Haven, playing baseball and football. He collected 10 saves in 27 innings pitched for the Chargers during his senior season in 2018, consistently appearing as the closer. Croce compiled a record of 5-1 in his final campaign with New Haven, and was named third team All-Conference and competed in the NEIBA All-Star game.
"We got strong reports from Kellen from his time at New Haven," said assistant general manager of baseball operations Tony Buccilli. "He had a pretty impressive career as a reliever and we hope that continues here in Washington. This is the time of year we look to bolster are staff down the stretch, so we look for guys like Kellen to grow into meaningful contributors."
Croce will be active tonight as the Wild Things host the Joliet Slammers to start a three-game homestand tonight at 7:05.
