Washington, PA-March 31, 2015- The Washington Wild Things are excited to announce the signing of two Double-A prospects, infielder Jeudy Valdez and left-handed pitcher Kevin Brandt for the 2015 season.

Valdez, a 25-year-old infielder from the Dominican Republic, spent parts of eight seasons in the San Diego Padres system before signing a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs last offseason. During the 2014 season, Valdez split time between the Lake Elsinore Storm and the Tennessee Smokies and registered 253 at-bats, 55 hits, nine doubles and 27 RBI.

Prior to his year with the Cubs, Valdez competed for eight seasons with the Padres. He played back-to-back seasons with Double-A San Antonio Missions in 2012 and 2013 making 985 plate appearances and 905 at-bats. Over a span of two years with the Missions, Valdez hit 53 doubles, 22 home runs, seven triples and drove in 95 RBI.

Brandt, a Raleigh, NC native and a graduate of East Carolina University was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft. The southpaw started the 2014 season with High-Class A Port Charlotte Stone Crabs and compiled a 3-2 record and a 1.17 ERA in 54 innings of work. After 30 games, Brandt was called up to the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits where he made six appearances last season.

The former 2014 Florida State League All-Star was a two-time All-Conference USA performer and Freshman All-Selection in 2009 at East Carolina. He was one of five Pirates to be selected in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.

The Washington Wild Things open their 14th season in the Frontier League against the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday, May 15th at 7:05 p.m. Season tickets for the 2015 season are available now.
