Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things announced they have traded pitcher Jonathan Kountis to the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association in exchange for pitchers Andy Noga, Hamilton Bennett and a player to be named later.
For the past two seasons in his professional baseball career, Andy Noga, a native of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, experienced back-to-back stints with the Sioux City Explorers (2013) and Kansas City T-Bones (2014), respectively. The 6-foot-1 and 165 pound right-hander established a career 5.25 ERA in 43 games in the American Association. Collegiately, the East Stroudsburg University graduate etched his name in the Division II University's record books surpassing a school record in 2011 with 11.6 strikeout-to-walk ratio (58 strikeouts, 5 walks). He also ranked third amongst his fellow graduates in ERA (3.38) and innings pitched (122.2).
Bennett, a former 29th round draft pick by the New York Mets in the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft, has previous experience in affiliated ball with the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Penn League), Savannah Sand Gnats (Southern Atlantic League), St. Lucie Mets (Florida State League) and the Binghamton Mets (Eastern League). He most recently split time in 2014 between the T-Bones and the Mets working 20.8 innings in 25 games.
Former Wild Things closer Jonathan Kountis, will compete in his fourth season in independent baseball with Kansas City in 2015. The Wild Things closer delivered an outstanding 2014 season for Washington setting a new single season Frontier League record with his 29th save of the season in August. He finished the regular season with 32 saves, a 2.51 ERA and appeared in the 2014 Frontier League All-Star Game as well as the Wild Things first postseason run in seven seasons.
"Jonathan Kountis was a tremendous asset to the Washington Wild Things. Jonathan was the ultimate professional on and off the field. Jonathan's physical and mental preparations were major reasons for his success in becoming the record holder for saves in the Frontier League," Wild Things field manager Bob Bozzuto said. "The Washington Wild Things Organization will miss his athleticism and leadership in 2015, but realize the importance of advancing his career as a professional baseball player. We look forward to Jonathan's development in becoming a Major League player."
The Washington Wild Things open their 14th season in the Frontier League against the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday, May 15th at 7:05 p.m. Season tickets for the Washington Wild Things 2015 season are available now.
