Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - More than 4,000 Wenatchee Wild fans were on hand Saturday night to witness Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, Minn.) become the first goaltender in club history to score a goal. Scored on an empty net with 27 seconds remaining in regulation, Jaeger's goal put the icing on the Wild's 4-1 victory over the Dawson Creek Rage. The win gave the Wild (28-17-3) a 2-game sweep over the Rage and sole possession of second place in the West Division with 59 points.
Wild forward Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) opened scoring 1:44 into the second stanza when he tapped in a pass from Michael Di Puma (Chicago, Ill.) below the far circle from point blank range during a power play. Chris Rumble (Chesapeake, Va.) also assisted. Troy Petrick knotted the score, 1-1, at 7:28 when he beat Jaeger 5-hole with a wrister. The Wild reclaimed the lead with 76 seconds remaining in the second when Matt Cope (Lakewood, Colo.) collected a rebound, switched to his backhand and flipped the puck high over Rage goaltender Andrew Walsh.
Wenatchee went up by two goals 6:44 into the third period when Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) scored top shelf from the slot on a one-timer off D.J. Vandercook's (Farmington Hills, Mich.) deft pass from the goal line. Jaeger scored from his goal line after the Rage dumped the puck into the offensive zone down the far boards. Jaeger went to his left knee as he followed through on the shot, which was high enough to clear oncoming players, and slid into the opposition's net just a tad off center. Jaeger was mobbed by teammates after the goal as the more than 4,000 fans in attendance chanted "Jaaay-ger."
Jaeger made 18 saves on 19 shots in his main duty while Walsh stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced. Wenatchee scored two power play goals on eight chances while Dawson Creek went 0-for-4.
Wenatchee is off next week before heading to Alaska to face the Avalanche on March 4-5.
