The Story:

A dominant first 40 minutes for the Winterhawks turned into a tough final 20-plus as four unanswered goals from Conor Geekie helped the Wild to a 6-5 overtime win on Saturday night.

Portland held a 5-1 lead through two periods, but the Geekie/Matthew Savoie combo came to life in the final frame.. Savoie struck first at 2:54 of the third, then Geekie tallied a hat-trick in 5:49 to tie things up. After a handful of chances both ways in overtime, Geekie capped off his four-goal effort with the game-winner at 3:05 of the extra frame.

Josh Davies fueled a strong start for Portland with two goals in the first two periods. His first of the night was one to remember - just 50 seconds into the game, the Florida Panthers prospect streaked down the left wing and wired a shot so hard it became stuck in the net behind Brendan Gee. After a brief delay to retrieve the biscuit, the Hawks made it 2-0 on Marcus Nguyen's eighth of the year. A clean Kyle Chyzowski faceoff win found Nguyen at the top of the circle for a one-time blast past Gee.

Wenatchee got on the board early in the second through a Dawson Seitz strike, but Portland responded with three consecutive goals to wrap up the middle frame with a 5-1 lead. Davies potted the first at 4:34, finishing off a Jack O'Brien centering feed, followed by Tyson Yaremko's first WHL goal at 13:57. Fellow rookie Kyle McDonough served a perfect pass for Yaremko to tap home in the slot. Four minutes later, Diego Buttazzoni joined the fun, collecting a Luke Schelter seam pass and flashing it past Gee.

Gee earned the win with 39 saves on 44 shots for the Wild, while Portland's Justen Maric took the tough-luck loss despite a solid 31-save showing.

The Winterhawks are back in action at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday against the Prince George Cougars.
