Wenatchee Wild News Release
Wenatchee, WA. - The Wenatchee Wild hosted the Aberdeen Wings Friday night and it was a nip and tuck affair all night long, with the Wings scoring in the extra session to win 3-2, in front of 3,566 fans at the Town Toyota Center.
Wenatchee grabbed the early lead as Parker Tuomie (Biemerhaven, Germany), who was stationed up the slot at the hash marks, gunned one home glove side. The power play goal, assisted by Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) and Alex Rauter (Morristown, New Jersey) at 5:04, put the Wild on top 1-0.
Early in the second period, David Powlowski (Rochester, New York) scored a power play goal from Nicholas Rivera (Pacific Palisades, California) at 3:56 for a 2-0 Wenatchee lead. Aberdeen would strike moments later with a power play goal of their own, as Bjorn Siguardarson scored from Jordan Heller and Jake Horton at 5:21, slicing the Wild lead to 2-1.
The Wings would tie the game early in the third on a Tanner Okeson goal. Jonathan Grebosky and Erik Baskin drew the assists at 2:03, squaring the game at 2-2. Wenatchee was able to hold Aberdeen at bay the rest of the third period, getting the game to the extra period.
The Wings would squeak one home in the overtime to win it, as former Wild defenseman Dillon Eichstadt scored from Horton at 3:52, giving Aberdeen the 3-2 win. "I liked our effort" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "It would have been nice to finish them off, but with only playing three lines, I was happy with our effort." On qualifying for the post season, Littler said "I think making the playoffs was a big accomplishment with this group. Where we started to where we're at and with having to play as shorthanded as we did tonight, I'm proud of our guys."
Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) made 16 saves for the Wild; Chad Catt had 25 stops for the Wings. Wenatchee was 2-for-2 on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill.
The Wild is now 29-22-8; Aberdeen is 37-18-4. With the single point earned, coupled with Coulee Region's shoot out loss to the Minnesota Wilderness earlier in the evening, Wenatchee assured themselves of finishing no worse than fourth in the Midwest Division, clinching a spot in the NAHL's Robertson Cup playoffs.
The Wild wraps up the regular season by hosting the Aberdeen Wings tomorrow night at 7:05pm PDT. Individual and group game tickets for all home games are on sale now. Call 509.888.PUCK (7825).
