
'Rays End 2013-14 Season with 3-0 Shutout over Killer Bees

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Tony Roisum scored the eventual game winner in the second period and Forbes Ploszaj stopped all 29 shots he faced as the Corpus Christi IceRays finished the 2013-14 season with a 3-0 shutout of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees as 6,553 fans watched inside American Bank Center. On the weekend, a total of 12,758 fans watched IceRays hockey for the final two home games!
After no scoring in the opening period, the IceRays struck first in the middle frame to electrify the crowd at American Bank Center. Tony Roisum took the puck after a Luke McDiarmid shot and had a wide open net until goaltender Nick Schmit sprawled across the crease to make an incredible save. Roisum picked up the rebound and went in behind the coming out to Schmit's left where le het go a rocket that beat Schmit this time over the shoulder for a power-play goal at 9:55 of the second period for a 1-0 lead for Corpus Christi heading into the third period. McDiarmid with the lone assist on Roisum's 7th of the year.
In the third period Wes Michaud came through to give the IceRays a two goal lead at the 4:13 mark. Nick Monfils moved through center ice and flopped a great pass onto the stick of Michaud who walked in all alone wristing the puck over the shoulder of Nick Schmit that caught the iron and dropped into the net for his 13th of the year and a 2-0 lead for Corpus Christi with Monfils claiming the only assist.
Jesse Shelton scored his first goal of the year on a long empty net goal from inside his own defensive zone to provide the IceRays with a three goal lead which held up as the final score in front of 6,553 fans!
