December 15, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release
Today was the last day the Wild were set to stay in Topeka and what was their number one mission? To gain the last two points available for the weekend. After the conclusion of three periods, the RoadRunners were awarded with the a 3-2 final but Wenatchee certainly showed their abrasive side and was not going down without a strong fight. In fact, 18 minutes into the first period, Anthony Mangano and Topeka forward Cam Strong dropped the gloves for a fury-filled fight that would eventually land both of them fighting major and misconduct penalties.
At the 11:46 mark of the first period, Sam Rennaker got the ball rolling for this match with a power play goal that was assisted by Jasen Fernsler. Sly Sutter was the next to light the lamp in favor of Topeka, and at 18:05, Sutter's power play goal went up on the scoreboard. Mike Gornall and Fernsler had the assists on this goal that would eventually become the last of the period.
Chris Jones was the first Wenatchee player to get a point on the board for the team and this was able to occur when Jones scored an unassisted point on Topeka goaltender Matej Tomek only eight seconds into the third period. Dakota Raabe scored Wenatchee's final goal of the game at 5:23. Colin Burston was credited with the last Wild assist of the night. The RoadRunner's scored their last goal of the night as well at 13:18 when Ryan Polin found the back of Wenatchee's net with help from Dominic Lutz and Carlos Fornaris.
Wenatchee ended the night with a 7-18-6 shot record and was able to out shoot Topeka 31-29. Officials had to whistle six infractions on Wild players and penalties went to Mike Coyne (Checking from Behind) (Roughing), Anthony Mangano (Fighting (Major)) (Fighting (Misconduct)), Mitch Demario (Slashing), and Chris Jones (Holding).
Zach Quinn was in the Wild's net for the night, and while playing for 58:41 minutes, he was able to stop 26 shots on goal out of 29.
Coach Littler stated, "Very tough night. Played well 5 on 5. The difference was all three of their goals were power play goals. We had more than enough chances to win this game. Regroup and get ready for two home games next weekend."
When the teams returns to Wenatchee, they will be preparing for their final series of 2014. This will be a two game series taking place on December 19th and 20th against the Wichita Falls Wildcats in the Town Toyota Center. Both games have a 7:05 pm PST puck drop. Don't miss out on this year's last home series and help send the team into the new year with a few wins in their pockets!
