Wild Begin Two Game Series in Corpus Christi

October 6, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release

The Wenatchee Wild took on the Corpus Christi Ice Rays tonight in Texas after a long day of travel to kick off a two game series. This is their first of two series this week in Texas seeing that on the 10th and 11th they will play against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. There was only a one point difference when the buzzer ended the third period but this match would ultimately go to the home team; Corpus Christi. Wenatchee put up a well fought battle nonetheless. They were very proficient tonight working the boards, keeping the puck between each other, and having very good on-ice vision. In my opinion, the long day of travel was a possible factor in the outcome of this game but either way, Wenatchee will be coming out of the gates tomorrow focusing on putting the biscuit in the basket. Hopefully Wenatchee's new goaltender, Michael Bullion, will have an impact on the team seeing as he was sent down from the WHL's Everett Silvertips earlier this week. At the moment, tomorrow's game will be a duel until the very last seconds of the game.

To begin the scoring game, the first period saw two Corpus Christi goals. The first came from Corpus Christi's best player at the moment #4 Anthony Cortese at 7:43. The assist on that goal went to #9 Logan Gestro. In fact, the next and last goal of the period was scored by Gestro at 11 minutes and 12 seconds into the first period with an assist for #11 Wes Michaud.

Ice Rays skater #20 Nate Colwell lifted Corpus Christi to 3-0 lead with his goal at 15:45 into the second period. Anthony Cortese and #19 Nathan Bryer helped on this goal.

Wenatchee's first goal of the game occurred three minutes and 58 seconds into the last period when Ryan Chiasson was able to put it past Ice Ray goaltender Andrew Lindgren with the assistance of David Powlowski. At 15:08, Wenatchee scored the last goal of the game which was a result of the successful play by forward #18 Stevie Bryant and an assist for forward #8 Fetkovic Lubomir.

The Wild only took four penalties this game and they were Holding (Mitch Demario), Tripping (Colin Burston), and Checking From Behind, (Brendan Harris) ((Misconduct)) (Brendan Harris). Michael Bullion and Forbes Ploszaj were both in the crease for Wenatchee tonight but in the end, Bullion ended up saving 19 out of 20 shots on goal whereas Forbes saved 4 out of 6. Michael played for a total of 47:18 minutes and Forbes played 11:12.

Coach Littler stated tonight, "After a very tough day of travel I thought we got better as the game went along. Need to regroup and find a way to get better tomorrow and come away with points."

Tomorrow's game will be played at 5:05 pm PST (7:05 pm CST in Corpus Christi ) at the AmericanBank Center. Tune in tomorrow, if you can, because tomorrow's game will be a great battle between these two contenders!
