Warriors Sweep Opening Weekend
October 6, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Keystone Ice Miners News Release
CONNELLSVILLE, PA - The Ice Miners walked out of Perani Arena last Sunday feeling like they stole a win from the Michigan Warriors. They couldn't get away with the same thing this weekend, as Michigan took both games at the Ice Mine, completing the weekend sweep with a 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
For the first time all season, the Warriors scored a first period goal when A.J. Marcinek potted his 3rd goal of the year at 5:21. Tyler Groat and Cam Jorgensen assisted. Defenseman Ryan Burr extended the lead at 9:08, again fron Groat. The Warriors led 2-0 after twenty minutes.
Trying to spark the team, the Ice Miners replaced Alex Blankenburg with Nick Kossoff in goal to start the 2nd period, but it did not make a difference. Keystone couldn't find the back of the net and a Groat powerplay goal extended the lead to 3-0 at 15:07 of the frame. The third period was more of the same, as Ryan Dougherty netted a powerplay goal at 9:39. Marcinek got his 2nd point of the night with an assist. Warriors netminder Trevor Gorsuch, who was winless coming into the weekend, picked up his 2nd consecutive victory, making 21 saves for the shutout.
The Ice Miners will begin a four game roadtrip with three in Springfield, Illinois next weekend against the Jr. Blues. The first game is Friday at 8:05 PM ET. All games will be broadcast on FASTHockey.com. The next Ice Miners home game will be Sunday, October 26th at 1:00 PM against the Johnstown Tomahawks.
