Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies launched its extensive, award-winning educational program "Wild About Reading" at Lincoln Elementary School of Clovis Unified School District today. "Wild About Reading," presented by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), Educational Employees Credit Union (EECU) and the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), reaches more than 80,000 Central Valley students and utilizes the fun and excitement of Grizzlies baseball as an incentive to promote reading.

The "Wild About Reading" program, currently in its ninth year, will challenge over 150 elementary schools in 2012, from as far north as Merced to a southern-most reach of Lemoore. From January through the end of March, Grizzlies staff, Parker and recent addition Eddie the Owl of the EECU will read and act out "Parker Goes on Vacation," a humorous children's book that touches on themes of energy conservation and environmental stewardship. Each student will be challenged to read 10 books in five weeks to earn two free tickets to a 2012 Grizzlies game at Chukchansi Park.

In 2011, the Wild About Reading program experienced a record-breaking year, challenging over 71,000 students from across the Central Valley to read more than 710,000 books. For those who met the goal of reading 10 books each, the Grizzlies donated over 54,000 baseball tickets.

To book a Wild About Reading Assembly with Parker at a local school, please call (559) 320-2538 or visit www.fgtix.com/war for more information.
