
Marlins Sign Metairie's Chad Gaudin

Metairie, LA - Right-handed pitcher Chad Gaudin, a Metairie native who graduated from Crescent City High School, has signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins.
Gaudin joins Beau Jones (Destrehan), Wade LeBlanc ( Lake Charles ) and Sean West ( Shreveport ) as Louisianans who will compete for jobs on the Marlins' pitching staff in spring training .
Gaudin, who will turn 29 shortly before Opening Day, was a 2001 graduate of Crescent City, where he was selected by Baseball America as a third-team All-American and earned All-State and district MVP in his junior and senior years. After being selected by Tampa Bay in the 34th round, Gaudin quickly rose through the Rays' system and made his Major League debut in 2003.
In parts of nine big league seasons with the Rays, Blue Jays, Athletics, Cubs, Padres, Yankees and Nationals, Gaudin is 36-40 with a 4.63 ERA in 268 games, and won a World Series ring with the 2009 Yankees.
He battled through a shoulder injury to make 10 appearances with the Nationals in 2011 before being released in July and signing with the Blue Jays, where he finished the season with their Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas .
