WHL Announces Playoff Schedule for Blades vs Hurricanes

The East Division Champion, the Saskatoon Blades will begin their quest for the Ed Chynoweth Cup on Friday March 20th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Blades finished the regular season with a record of 49-18-3-2 en route to capturing the Eastern Division Championship for the first time in 15 years. The Blades impressive season saw them improve on last season's 29-34-3-6, which saw them miss the post-season for the second straight season. This year's total of 103 points is a 36 point improvement upon last season.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes, led by World Junior Gold medallist Zach Boychuk, finished the regular season with a 35-32-3-2 record which landed them in the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes, who were picked by many to back up last year's Eastern Conference Championship with another solid campaign, did not get off to a great start but with the addition of Chicago Blackhawk's first round pick Kyle Beach and the return of Luca Sbisa from the Philadelphia Flyers, the Hurricanes have a very talented line-up with a lot of playoff experience.

Blades 20 year old forward Adam Chorneyko was a member of the Hurricanes team last year that won the Eastern Conference title before losing to the eventual Memorial Cup winners, the Spokane Chiefs. The Saskatoon Blades won the season series between these two teams with a record of 3-1. The Blades were led offensively by Captain Derek Hulak who recorded 4 goals in the 4 games played between the Blades and Hurricanes.
