
WhiteWings' Winning-Streak Snapped by Roadrunners in Game One of Doubleheader

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings' six-game winning streak came to an end as the Edinburg Roadrunners scored nine runs in the second inning en route to a 13-12 victory over the WhiteWings in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader on Thursday at Harlingen Field.
The Roadrunners (42-29) scored against Andres Rosales (4-4) right away. With one out, Felix Molina singled and Nelson Teilon singled to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch scored Molina to make it 1-0.
Fourteen Roadrunners came to the plate in the top of the second against two pitchers. Carlos Hereaud led off with a single. One out later, Alexis Hernandez singled. With two outs, Wilmer Pino hit his fourth home run of the season. Molina followed with a single and Teilon hit his fourth home run of the season. After that, Ambiorix Concepcion singled and Wilson Batista to knock out Rosales. Luis Carreras, a right-hander who was signed just before the game, made his WhiteWings debut and allowed an RBI-single to Hereaud and a single to Robert Matlock to load the bases. A four-pitch walk to Hernandez forced in a run and Osiel Flores hit a two-run single to cap the inning at 10-0.
The WhiteWings (38-36) responded against Mark DiBernardo in the bottom of the third. Roberto Rodriguez led off with a double and Javis Diaz singled. Luany Sanchez hit an RBI-single and Yeurys Tejeda reached on an RBI-fielder's choice. Two batters later, Welinson Baez hit an RBI-single and Arlon Quiroz belted his 11th home run of the season to make it 10-6.
The Roadrunners loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fourth and Pino hit an RBI-single to knock out Carreras. Molina hit a sacrifice fly off of Tate Kelly to make it 12-6.
Sanchez led off the bottom of the fourth with a double, one out later, Venutra walked and Welington Dotel reached on a fielder's choice error to load the bases. Baez followed with hit a two-run single. One out later, Eric Gonzalez and Rodriguez hit back-to-back RBI-single to bring the WhiteWings within 12-10.
Concepcion led off the top of the fifth with a double, after a sacrifice bunt moved Concepcion to third, the WhiteWings brought in Ruben De La Rosa, who threw a wild pitch to score Concepcion and make it 13-10 Roadrunners.
Sanchez led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk against Ricardo Serrano and Tejeda followed with his 11th home run of the season to bring the WhiteWings within 13-12.
Julio Castro (2-0) recorded the final five outs for the win.
The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game two of this doubleheader in approximately 30 minutes. Right-hander Johnny Montoya (0-1) is expected to face right-hander Carlos Rangel (5-6).
