San Angelo Colts News Release

The Colts desperately needed a win after being swept by the WhiteWings and losing five straight ball games, slipping into fourth place. The Colts received a Vitamin C boost as Jason Crosland hit two homeruns, Josh Collazo added one and Landon Camp added another as the Colts win game one of a four game series against rival Amarillo 9-7.

Brian Henschel who was 0-3, 7.14 ERA in his last four starts did not begin well allowing solo runs in the first and second on RBI singles by Julio Martinez in the first and Jermel Lomack in the second as the Dillas jump out in front 2-0. The Colts tied it on a two-run homer in the top of the fourth by Jason Crosland (21) to make it 2-2. San Angelo gave it right back though as the Dillas scored a pair of their own scoring two in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Adam De La Garza and an RBI single by Joaquin Rodriguez to take back a two run lead in the bottom of the fourth at 4-2.

The Colts exploded with four runs in the top of the sixth on a Josh Collazo RBI single and a three-run homer by Landon Camp (19) to take a two run lead at 6-4. It was the first time the Colts had a lead in 41 innings. San Angelo would add three more runs in the top of the eighth on back-to-back solo homeruns by Josh Collazo (13) and Jason Crosland (22), his second of the night, to go up 9-4. Brian Henschel returned to form throwing seven solid innings, allowing four runs, eleven hits, walking just one, while striking out two.

Defeating the Dillas is never easy though, as Bryan Heaston walked the only two batters he faced in the ninth and Chace Vacek would come on to try and close it out. The Dillas scored three times on back-to-back doubles; one by Alberto Cruz that drove in two and one by Rob Recuenco that drove in one to make it 9-7, which would be the final score. The Recuenco double broke a string of 20 straight appearances and a 21 consecutive scoreless innings streak by Vacek.

On Thursday the Colts and Dillas play game two of their four game series. San Angelo sends out right-hander Ezequiel Astacio (6-5, 5.27) against a righty Ralph Roberts (5-3, 4.22) for Amarillo. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
