
WhiteWings Spring Training Report - Day Three

Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings played their first intra-squad game today as they continue to prepare for the regular season. The home team won 13-1.
The home team exploded for five runs in the third as Carl Johnson led off with a single. One out later, Terry Robles hit an RBI-double. Candelario Perez reached on an error, and after a fly out that would have ended the inning, Bub Bergstrom hit a two-run double, David Fowler hit an RBI-single and Ryan Fox capped the inning with an RBI-triple that made it 5-0.
Argelis Nunez responded with a two-out RBI-single to drive in Stephen Ward in the top of the fourth, making it 5-1.
The home team, however, got that one back and two more in the bottom of the inning as Kevin Griffin led off with a single and stole second. One batter later, a Brian Nichols walked. Nichols took of for second on the first pitch of the next at-bat and beat the throw while Griffin stole home. Robles followed with an RBI-double and Perez hit an RBI-single to make it 8-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Fowler led off with a single and scored on a Fox double off the right-center field wall to make it 9-1.
Robles led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. Out out later, he scored on a Miguel Peguero triple. One batter later, Fowler hit a sacrifice fly to make it 11-1.
In the bottom of the eighth, Peguero and Bergstrom led off with walks. They attempted a double-steal and the throw went into center field, allowing Peguero to score and Bergstrom to go to third. After a walk of Fowler, Fox hit an RBI-single. Then Griffin hit a fly ball to right field for the first out. The runners tagged, Fox got thrown out at second for the second out. During the run down, Fowler tried to score, and was then thrown out to complete the triple play.
Lefty Julian Williams got credit for the win after pitching three innings of scoreless relief, giving up just one hit and two walks while striking out two.
The WhiteWings will play one more intra-squad game tomorrow morning. Players will be on the field at 10:00 a.m. and the game is expected to start around 10:45.
