
WhiteWings Sign Outfield Prospect from Mariners Organization

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they have signed 24-year old outfielder Welington Dotel (6-2, 200), who was recently released by the Seattle Mariners from their Midwest League (Class A) affiliate in Clinton, Iowa.
In a corresponding move, the WhiteWings released catcher/first baseman Joel Roa (6-0, 175).
Dotel hit .241 with five doubles, four triples, one home run and 17 RBI in 34 games before getting released on July 3. Dotel had the best season of his career last year, batting .329 with 15 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 35 RBI in 65 games split between Clinton and Everett (Northwest League, Class A Short-Season). For his career, Dotel is a .279 hitter with 46 doubles, 17 triples, 25 home runs and 125 RBI in 261 games. He has stolen 45 bases in 74 attempts.
Roa hit .225 with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 46 games.
