San Angelo Colts News Release

Robstown, Texas--- After splitting a four game series with the WhiteWings at home, the Colts went to Fair Grounds Field for the first time this season to take on Coastal Bend in a four game series. It was a see-saw battle in a game the Colts never lead, but erased a four run deficit to tie it late, only to lose in the ninth. The Thunder would get the first and last run to win a close one 7-6.

It was more first inning woes for the Colts as the Thunder struck for two on a single by Alex Fernandez that made it 2-0 Coastal Bend. Both teams exchanged solo runs in the third with San Angelo getting one on a Butch Ballez (5) solo homerun and the Thunder got a run on sac fly RBI by Alex Fernandez, his third RBI of the night, and Coastal Bend was up 3-1. The Thunder added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a Leivi Ventura (14) homerun, who took over solo possession of the ULB homerun lead, and it was 4-1.

The Colts cut it to 4-2 on a Ronnie Gaines RBI single in the top of the sixth. The Thunder added two though in the bottom of the inning however on a Mike Goss RBI double and it was 6-2 Thunder after six. With it looking bleak and the Colts running out of time going into the eighth, San Angelo did not give up scoring four times. Ronnie Gaines drove in his second run of the night on a fielders' choice which set the stage for Josh Collazo two batters later. After hitting his third grand slam of the season the night before Collazo (8) hit a three-run homer to tie it at 6-6.

It was short lived however as Tristan Gaines who came on in relief in the eighth, allowed a one out single to Dustin Smith. On a pick off attempt Gaines made an errant throw that allowed Smith to go all the way to third. The Thunder would score the winning run on Mike Goss' foul out that was just deep enough down the left field line to act as a sac fly as Smith narrowly avoided the throw by Isaac Garcia in left and the Thunder led 7-6, which would be the final.

On Sunday with an earlier start time the Colts send out right-hander Ezequiel Astacio (3-4, 5.60) against former Colts pitcher and southpaw Doug Brandt (2-3, 4.11) for the Thunder. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 5:50 with the first pitch set for 6:05 on 1260 KKSA.
