WhiteWings sail past Thunder, 8-1

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, after taking a 10-5 win over McAllen on Tuesday, more than maintained the momentum Thursday at Edinburg Stadium, pounding out 13 hits en route to an 8-1 decision.

The WhiteWings in the first game of a new series with the Thunder, began their scoring drive in the second inning with three runs on three hits and three walks. After, the Thunder scored its sole run in the third, the Wings scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and put three more on the scoreboard in the sixth.

The Wings went through four Thunder pitchers, getting first to Kevin Martin for three runs and three hits in the second frame.

Meanwhile, Coleman Stephens gave up the one Thunder run and four hits in 5.2 innings.

Returning to action after recently suffering a head injury on a pitched ball was Wing first baseman Nick Lezendorf. He went 1-for-4.

Also making a brief appearance, was former major league hurler Rafael Reyes, who has been bothered with a sore arm. He pitched one inning, giving up one walk and striking out one.

Francisco Santana went 3-for-5 for the WhiteWings, Rudy Yan was 3-for-3, with a triple, and Juan Fuentes was 2-for-3.

The two clubs meet again Friday in the second game of the set, at Edinburg Stadium.
