
WhiteWings Pick up Option on MVP

HARLINGEN - The North American League's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced on Tuesday that they have picked up the option on 2010 United League Baseball Most Valuable Player Leivi Ventura (6-2, 240).
Overall, Ventura hit .326 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI in 93 games with the WhiteWings and Coastal Bend Thunder. In 22 games after joining the WhiteWings in a trade, the third baseman hit .424 (36-for-85) with eight home runs and 20 RBI while helping the WhiteWings to clinch their first playoff berth since 2007. Ventura finish tied for second in the league in home runs and led the league in runs batted in. He was also the only player to compete in 93 games. Ventura finished fifth in runs scored (76), fifth in total hits (121), first in total bases (217), tied for second in extra-base hits (46), fourth in slugging percentage (.585) and third in times hit by a pitch (15).
The WhiteWings open the season with a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Edinburg Baseball Stadium May 25-through-28. The WhiteWings host the new McAllen Thunder in their home opening series from May 29-through-June 1.
