Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, recently crowned the North American League South Division champions, finalized their roster for the North American League Championship. Game one of the best-of-seven North American League Championship series is set for Thursday at 8:05 p.m. CDT in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The series will be played entirely in Edmonton.

Due to the Canada Border Service Agency's (CBSA) policy, all non-US citizens on the WhiteWings' roster were not permitted to cross the Canadian border, forcing several roster changes. Overall, nine original WhiteWings players will not play in the championship series against the Edmonton Capitals.

"We lost some good players, but these new players really add to the team. We add a lot of depth and some really good power in our lineup now. I can't wait for the series to start," said WhiteWings Manager Eddie Dennis.

Key additions to the WhiteWings roster include Cory Patton, Daryl Jones, Landon Camp, Logan Williamson, Chandler Barnard and Brian Henschel.

Jones finished the regular season as the North American League homerun king and set a new San Angelo Colts record by hitting 28 homeruns while Patton and Camp finished second and fifth, respectively, in the league in home runs. The three combined to hit for 77 homeruns. Camp also led the league in slugging percentage with a .681 mark.

Logan Williamson led the league in strikeouts, collecting 104 through 113.2 innings pitched which also led the league. Barnard finished second in the league in ERA, only behind the WhiteWings' Eric Blackwell, with a 3.25 clip.

Henschel, meanwhile, is the Colts' all-time leader in wins (34), innings pitched (490.1) and strikeouts (281). He also holds the single-season record for ERA (2.19) and has the fifth-best ERA all-time (4.39) for San Angelo.

Among the players not making the trip to Canada are closer Edgar Martinez, who led the league in saves with 22. Alexander Concepcion, Edgar Trejo, Wander Perez, Luis Chirinos, Francisco Santana and Welington Dotel are the others not eligible to travel into Canada. All are citizens of the Dominican Republic or Venezuela.

David Peralta, who hit .392 on the year and was named the league's batting champ, will also not play in the championship series. Peralta, who is a U.S. resident, will stay at home after learning his wife was diagnosed with skin cancer last week. WhiteWings first basemen Eric Gonzalez is also not making the trip.

All games will be broadcast live on 956sports.com.
