WhiteWings fall 6-4 to San Angelo

HARLINGEN - The San Angelo Colts scored four runs in the third inning of starter Brandon Bowe, then held on at the end to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 6-4 Saturday night in United League Baseball action at Harlingen Field.

The Colts improved to 14-9 with the victory, while the Wings fell to 8-15 after their second consecutive loss to San Angelo. Bowe (0-1) got through the first two innings unscathed, but he was chased in the third after five hits and two walks plated four runs. Clemente Doble came on and pitched the final six and two-thirds innings for the WhiteWings, allowing two earned runs while striking out four and walking three.

The WhiteWings jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning, as Carlos Mendoza led off with a double and Omar Bramasco singled. Second baseman Antoin Gray then doubled both runners home with a shot to right center.

Rio Grande Valley scored single runs in the fourth and ninth innings. In the fourth, Sam McLain was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI single to left by Bramasco. In the ninth, Jordan Szabo walked and was doubled home by Bramasco, who finished the game with three hits, two RBIs and one run scored. Designated hitter Dimerson Nunez had a three-hit night as well for the WhiteWings. Mendoza had two hits for RGV.

The Colts had 10 hits and left 11 runners on base, while the WhiteWings had nine hits and left eight runners on. RGV had four doubles and five singles in the contest.

San Angelo starter Mark Goodman (3-2) got the victory, going six innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two. Brantley Jordan pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season, striking out two and walking one while allowing one run.

In tomorrow's series finale, A. J. Bozenhard (2-2, 5.81 ERA) of the Wings will oppose Stephen Artz (1-0, 4.64 ERA) of the Colts. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. at Harlingen Field.
